Halloween is always a cause for celebration at Flora Springs, and all year long we look forward to releasing our Halloween Wines. Over the last decade, these seasonal bottlings have become some of our most anticipated and highly sought after annual releases.
Read more from @drinkinnature. “As wine lovers many of us have changed our Halloween traditions, trading in the candy bags for something a bit more sophisticated. Instead of trick-or-treating, we embrace the season with a more refined, grown-up twist, enjoying an exceptional bottle of wine. Napa Valley’s Flora Springs has long been known for their tradition of crafting extraordinary Halloween-themed labels, and 2023 continues this delightful tradition with not one, but two exceptional red wines designed to evoke the spirit of the Halloween season. In their 2021 lineup, they have the hauntingly exquisite All Hallows’ Eve Cabernet Franc and the enigmatic Ghost Winery Malbec. Both are guaranteed to elevate your Halloween celebrations, whether you’re planning to gather around a campfire and share ghost stories, partake in a spooky 👻 movie marathon or host a Halloween potluck dinner where guests bring dishes that reflect the season.
.
The All Hallows’ Eve Cabernet Franc graces its label with the remarkable artistry of comic book illustrator and graphic novelist, Steve Ellis. This limited-production Cabernet Franc is a powerhouse, delivering a full-bodied experience that entices the senses with the delightful flavors of a dark fruit compote composed of ripe blackberries, luscious currants and black cherries. The combined fruit flavors along with notes of molasses, savory herb and fennel will cause a delightful shiver to run down your spine. There is also a graceful infusion of vanilla (which I absolutely love) and impeccably balanced tannins in this wine that leaves an indelible impression, haunting the palate with its enchanting conclusion.
This wine should definitely be on your Autumn Wine List. 🍁
.
I’m reserving the Ghost Winery Malbec for the pinnacle of Halloween itself, where I’ll savor it amidst the ghouls and goblins, to add an extra layer of enchantment to this fun and festive night. 🎃”
“I spent the past weekend creating Halloween decorations for a friend’s big party later this month and to get in the mood we popped this incredible bottle of 2021 All Hallows’ Eve Cabernet Franc from Flora Springs! Honestly, this is one of the best wines I’ve had in awhile. Delicious notes of black currant, blackberries, earl grey tea, baking spices, dried thyme and a lovely hint of vanilla and oak. I’m sad the bottle is gone! I may need to grab a few more for the rest of the spooky season.” @hayleyscellar

“…the quality of the fruit here is preposterous — it is so high, the Sauvignon Blanc is so decadent and lovely…it’s just captivating…this is Napa done right…”
Flora Springs Soliloquy is named for our proprietary Sauvignon Blanc clone, an outstanding and singular clone which is entirely unique to Flora Springs. Planted in our Crossroads Vineyard in the Oakville AVA, the clone was certified in the late 1980s by UC Davis as distinct from more common Sauvignon Blanc clones in Napa Valley. The clone nearly went extinct when our vines became diseased and had to be pulled. It took eight long years – three in a lab, two in a nursery and three in the ground – but our family was able to protect and preserve this precious clone. After that, General Manager Nat Komes took Soliloquy on as a personal project, conducting numerous blending trials over a three-year period to re-create the Soliloquy wine he and his family remember so fondly. Today, Soliloquy represents our quest to create the finest white wine we have ever made, a worthy companion to our proprietary red wine, Trilogy.
Our Sauvignon Blanc-based 2020 Soliloquy is a complex, multi-layered blend of white varietals offering evocative notes of pomelo, lime blossom, apple, hazelnut and stone fruit. Sauvignon Blanc anchors the wine with bold flavor, zesty acidity and serious weight, while the Chardonnay rounds out the blend with a creamy leesy quality. The Malvasia brings alluring citrus and floral notes. Soliloquy is an impressive, crowd pleasing wine, ideal for Saturday night dinner parties with friends. Learn more about this wine.
2020 Napa Valley Vintage
The 2020 Napa Valley growing season began with a warm, dry winter, with no appreciable rain until the end of March. A mild spring season gave the vines a healthy start, and summer brought very cool mornings and warm days. What looked like an ideal harvest turned into one of Napa Valley’s most challenging due to wildfires in the region. At Flora Springs, we were not able to harvest the majority of our red grapes, but we were able to safely harvest pristine, delicious grapes for our Soliloquy white wine in early September. As a family and team, we have pledged to over deliver on wine quality for more than forty years, even during challenging vintages. Our 2020 Soliloquy is a testament to this dedication.
“…decadent and lush, this is really a hedonistic Cabernet Sauvignon, really terroir driven as well, good acid and absolutely brilliant finish. I want to pair this with grilled meat – of any sort…I just want to keep savoring this wine…”
Thank you to Maximilian Riedel, 11th generation glassmaker at the world-renowned Riedel Wine Glass Company, for sharing his experience of opening and tasting our 1991 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with his 88,000 Instagram followers:
“..what a joy. The wine has been in my cellar for a very long time…look at that color, fun. Cheers!”

As we look towards the new year, we also take some time to look back on an amazing 2018 with our top nine Instagram posts.
Our love of Halloween shows, our plea for the #whitewineemoji still stands, gorgeous views inside and outside the winery delight – and, of course, we saved a skunk. Cheers to a great year!
Today we raise a glass to you. For those of you that are part of our digital community that emailed, signed, tweeted, messaged, liked or shared our plea for a white wine emoji, we are so grateful. If you proudly wear our button. If you always comment, tag, and like our content then we owe you our gratitude. Our efforts are paying off, as the campaign we launched last year calling for a new wine emoji is gaining traction. It has been embraced by the global wine community, including several large wineries in California.
Flora Springs Recognized
It’s not everyday we are featured in major publications such as: Forbes, Today, Decanter, and Wine Spectator. So you can imagine the happy dance we were doing in the cellar today! We were given credit as the first winery to launch a campaign around the white wine emoji!
“It’s gratifying to see other wine companies follow our example of making wine fun and relevant with their own petitions to establish a White Wine Emoji,” said Nat Komes, General Manager of Flora Springs. “The Unicode Emoji Subcommittee encouraged us to work as a global community on the project. And these additional efforts of wine companies and of course white wine lovers around the world will help us reach the goal Flora Springs sought when we started this movement.”
It’s because of our dedicated community on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest that we feel so passionate about the missing emoji. People from all over post messages to us. And we always have to respond with the red wine version of the wine glass emoji. As a family that has led the way in white wine since our founding over 40 years ago, we’re proud you trust us with this initiative.

For over forty years of crafting world-renowned wines, the Flora Springs name has become synonymous with perfectly balanced Napa Valley Chardonnay. The legacy began when our inaugural vintage in 1978 was awarded a gold medal at the Orange County Fair. A few years later our status of gold was bronzed when James Laube selected Flora Springs as one of his “First Growth” producers of Chardonnay in his book California’s Great Chardonnays.

Wine lovers who text, post and share their #currentstatus wine tasting or sharing a bottle with friends currently have only one varietal to rally around: the red wine emoji. While there is a rainbow of cocktails to choose from – and even two beer options – the single red wine emoji limits people to proclaiming their love for crimson wine only.

by The Nittany EpicureanHappy #SauvignonBlancDay! In addition to being a day celebrated by Star Wars fanatics, today is #SauvignonBlancDay – a global celebration of the sauvignon blanc grape. Wine lovers and winemakers come together today across the world to celebrate this grape that makes outstanding white wines in regions across the globe. We’ll celebrate the day by enjoying this sauvignon blanc from Flora Springs:
2016 Sauvignon Blanc produced & bottled by Flora Springs (St. Helena, California).
This wine is 100% sauvignon blanc from Napa Valley. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for seven months in a combination of vessels – stainless steel tanks, large wooden oval casks, concrete tanks, small oak barrels and stainless steel drums. It comes in at 14 % ABV.
The wine showed a pale straw color. Lemon curd, peach, grapefruit, apple and whiffs of orange blossom all arrived on the nose. Apple, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, slate and peach followed on a palate redolent with nuanced citrus notes. The wine exhibited great acidity and minerality, along with good structure and length. This wine would be a great aperitif on a warm day and would pair classically with freshly shucked oysters or poached shrimp.
