2023 Trilogy

96
Points, Decanter Magazine

Trilogy stands as the pinnacle of Flora Springs and the first wine released in a new era for the winery. Crafted with precision and intention, this flagship red blend redefined the Napa Valley region by becoming one of the first proprietary red blends.  Trilogy is born not only of place, but of philosophy, shaped where nature, craftsmanship, and vision converge. Crafted from three iconic Bordeaux-style varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

New to Wine?

The philosophy of blending is rooted in the belief that true beauty is found in balance. In crafting a red blend, the winemaker becomes both artist and alchemist, carefully shaping a composition where each varietal brings its own voice, texture, and energy. Structure, aroma, and depth are layered with intention, guided not by formula but by intuition, experience, and a deep understanding of the vineyard. Blending is an act of refinement, revealing harmony through contrast and elevating individual elements into a unified expression that is more resonant, complex, and enduring than any single component alone.

TASTING NOTES

The 2023 vintage of Trilogy opens with a beautifully layered aromatic profile of dark cherry, blackcurrant, and ripe plum, accented by hints of violet, graphite, and finely ground spice. On the palate, the wine is poised and expansive, revealing concentrated black fruit framed by polished tannins and a seamless, velvety texture. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and depth, Cabernet Franc lends lifted aromatics and savory nuance, while Petit Verdot contributes color, intensity, and quiet power. Subtle notes of cedar, cocoa, and crushed stone emerge through a long, resonant finish, underscoring a wine of precision, balance, and remarkable aging potential.

WINEMAKER NOTES

More than four decades ago, Trilogy transcended convention to become one of Napa Valley’s first proprietary red wine blends. A bold, inspired creation that helped define a new era of winemaking that’s become a hallmark of the region. Aged for 22 months in 35% new oak. 27% French, 8% American.

THE ART OF BLENDING WINE

Born from the noble Bordeaux trio of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, Trilogy is not merely a wine; it is a symphony. Each varietal a note, each barrel a brushstroke, all harmonized into a composition of silken elegance, profound structure, and luminous vibrancy. The artistry of the winemaker is to weave these components into a silken palate that unfurls with dark fruit and subtle spice. Trilogy is the embodiment of balance, beauty, and bold imagination. A wine to be savored, celebrated, and remembered.

Vintage

In 2023, Napa Valley experienced one of the longest growing seasons in a decade or more. Winter and spring rains led to full reservoirs and healthy, saturated soils; ideal conditions as grape growers headed into the peak growing months. With consistent, mild weather throughout the season, above-average crop yields, and extended hang time, 2023 was an exceptional, high-quality, and memorable vintage.
