2023 Malbec

It begins with a rich, dense core that envelops the palate in layers of ripe black cherry, luxurious cassis, and delicate floral nuances tinged with violet. Malbec varietals are known for their smoothness and fruit forward profiles.

Aromatic elements intertwine gracefully with subtle undertones of cedar and a hint of decadent dark chocolate, adding depth and complexity to each sip. As the wine unfolds on the palate, additional layers emerge, revealing notes of supple worn leather, a touch of espresso, and the gentle embrace of toasty oak. The harmonious blend of flavors leads to a finish that is both structured and elegant, driven by firm yet refined tannins that lend a satisfying grip. Malbec fruit is plump and a deep, red color when it comes in mid-October. A three-day cold soak in open-top stainless steel tanks extracts color and flavor from the grape skins while also preserving tannin and allow the natural yeast to start to grow before fermentation. This soak is followed by 2 weeks fermentation in tanks, then aging in French 80% and American 20% oak barrels for 18 months.

In 2023, Napa Valley experienced one of the longest growing seasons in a decade or more. Winter and spring rains led to full reservoirs and healthy, saturated soils; ideal conditions as grape growers headed into the peak growing months. With consistent, mild weather throughout the season, above-average crop yields, and extended hang time, 2023 was an exceptional, high-quality, and memorable vintage.
