2023 Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon

Flora stirs from winter’s slumber, and with her return the valley awakens. As Gemini rises to its highest point in the sky, the goddess drifts across the Northern Hemisphere, stirring wildflowers and breathing new life into the vineyards of Napa Valley. The Awakening captures this moment of renewal—a Cabernet poised at the beginning of the journey ahead. The label reflects this transformation: a guiding star marks the celestial height of Gemini, lilies bloom in response to Flora’s gentle breath across the land, and the twin figures symbolize the Gemini constellation itself, a sign of duality, reflection, and change. Together, these elements tell the story of a season reborn and the first step in a journey shaped by nature, time, and possibility.

A Cabernet Sauvignon of breadth and depth; it opens slowly. Broad, shaped by time and air, tannins that coat and carry the wine with mouthwatering energy. Evolved and expansive, The Awakening invites a breath of air before revealing its full expression. The palate is unctuous, carried on savory yet subtly sweet tannins that feel mouthwatering and alive. Layers of blue fruit—wild blueberry, loganberry, and small berries gathered from the fields on the fringe of the vineyards unspool across the mid-palate, joined by notes of blueberry compote and confectioner’s spice. As the wine continues to unfold, deeper, more contemplative tones emerge: sassafras, cola berry, eucalyptus, and a gentle medicinal lift, lending complexity and intrigue. Its broader shoulders and savory structure give the wine a sense of grounded strength, while freshness and energy carry it forward.

Gathered from a vineyard in the southeastern slopes of Napa Valley, which rests between the Coombsville and Atlas Peak Appellations. The vineyard is Fish Friendly Farming Certified and blocks are farmed using both sustainable and CCOF certified farming practices. Our 2023 Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon comes from two small blocks that slope gently down from the Vaca range to the east. This slope coupled with the Haire loam soils create a uniform and consistently well-drained site, ideal conditions for growing rich, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 2023, Napa Valley experienced one of the longest growing seasons in a decade or more. Winter and spring rains led to full reservoirs and healthy, saturated soils; ideal conditions as grape growers headed into the peak growing months. With consistent, mild weather throughout the season, above-average crop yields, and extended hang time, 2023 was an exceptional, high-quality, and memorable vintage.
