2024 Sangiovese
Our ode to the goddess Flora and the fullness of harvest. Beneath the warmth of late summer, the vineyard deepens in tone and intensity. Fruit ripens, flavors concentrate, and the rhythm of the season slows as vines reach their peak. This collection reflects that moment of culmination, shaped by time, terrain, and the natural richness of maturity.
The 2024 Flora Springs Sangiovese opens with a vibrant ruby-red hue and inviting aromas of candied apple, roasted fruit, and delicate marzipan. On the palate, sweet apricot and black tea bring nuance, while a subtle, yeasty note reminiscent of freshly baked hot cross buns adds warmth and depth. Focused and bright, with a linear structure that retains lovely texture and richness, this is a fresh, versatile expression of Sangiovese that offers something a little unexpected. Enjoy it lightly chilled alongside prosciutto, olive tapenade, or halibut with a buttery caper sauce.
The 2024 Flora Springs Sangiovese is crafted from 100% Sangiovese sourced from the historic Gimelli Vineyard in California’s Central Coast. Nestled in the El Gabilan Mountain Range at elevations of 900 to 1,000 feet, the vineyard has roots dating back to 1908 and is organically farmed under CCOF guidelines. Its distinctive sandy limestone and granite soils contribute to the character of this expressive varietal. Handcrafted in small lots, the wine embraces a contemporary, Super Tuscan-inspired approach, balancing vibrant fruit, freshness, and depth in an elegant, food-friendly expression of Sangiovese.
The 2024 growing season offered a favorable balance of warmth and cool influences, allowing the grapes to develop concentrated flavor while retaining freshness and natural acidity. A relatively mild, even season supported gradual ripening and extended hang time, resulting in fruit with depth, aromatic complexity, and balanced structure. For Malbec, these conditions helped preserve the variety’s vibrant fruit character while allowing its savory, earthy qualities to emerge with clarity.
