2023 Holiday Wreath of Bacchus
Ships after October 19th.
In Roman mythology, Bacchus is the god of wine, the vine, celebration, and revelry. A joyful figure associated with abundance, transformation, and the pleasures of gathering together. Often depicted crowned with grapevines and ivy, Bacchus reminds us that wine has always been about more than what is in the glass; it is about the moments, feasts, friendships, and stories that unfold around it.
The Wreath of Bacchus draws upon this ancient symbolism for the holiday season. Etched in shimmering gold and winter white, the circular wreath evokes the vine crowns traditionally associated with Bacchus, reimagined with the elegance of the holidays. Its unbroken form symbolizes continuity and the eternal cycle of the vine—from winter's stillness to spring's awakening, summer's abundance, and the return of harvest.
Bright and expressive, this red blend opens with wild cherry, ripe raspberry and red plum, layered with hints of violet, dried herbs and anise. Sangiovese brings vibrant red fruit and mouthwatering acidity, while Oakville Merlot adds a supple layer of black cherry, plum and cocoa through the mid-palate. St. Helena Petit Verdot deepens the profile with blackberry, dark florals, savory spice and a touch of graphite. Fine, structured tannins frame the fruit without overwhelming it, leading into a long, savory finish accented by dried sage, black tea and bittersweet chocolate. Juicy yet structured, the wine balances Sangiovese's energy with the richness and depth of its Bordeaux varieties.
Led by Sangiovese, this blend was crafted to bring together the vibrancy of an Italian varietal with the depth and structure of classic Bordeaux grapes. Sangiovese forms the energetic heart of the wine, contributing bright red fruit, savory character, and lively acidity. Merlot from Oakville brings generosity and a supple, rounded texture to the mid-palate, while Petit Verdot from St. Helena adds darker fruit, floral complexity, and firm structure. Each component was selected for the distinctive character it brings to the blend, then carefully brought together to create a wine that is juicy and expressive, yet polished, structured, and beautifully balanced.
